The Art of Joining Datasets (Maria Zakourdaev, Perion)

mariazakourdaev מפגש ISUG מספר 141 בתאריך 7/4

Regular programming languages are quite straightforward – you write a code and it gets executed in the exact manner as you implemented it. Transact-SQL, which has its origins in a set theory, is a lot more abstract. Your query only describes what you want but the data gets processed in a way that the optimizer chooses. You pick one type of join and it gets replaced with a different one. You can try several ways of writing the query but keep getting the same execution plan. Come to this session to understand the differences and similarities between the various join operators, to understand what each one of them is exactly doing and how the optimizer decides which physical operation you really need to get your data back as fast as possible.

Maria Zakourdaev (Blog | Twitter) is a data architect in Perion. She is a DBA with 12 years of experience and a native T-SQL speaker.
